Sixties girl groups have a place in history.
They were extremely popular in the late 50’s
through to the 60’s as R&B inspired pop, the likes of the ‘Supremes’, the ‘Ronettes’ and
the ‘Shangri-Las’ topped the charts with songs that celebrated female desire.
Their
legacy lives on in countless, timeless pop hits that have been revived by today’s artists.
The 60’s girl groups had a profound influence on pop/rock and British invasion acts like
the Beatles. Dreamgirls has renewed interest in the girl groups of the 60’s.
The movie tells the story of
a small black record label, and its star singers who rise to the top of the charts.
The Ruby’s take you back to the time when girl groups dominated the charts, their songs innocent and yearning with sweet catchy melodies, and driving backbeats.
